I’m Gerald van Grootheest, IT security specialist and trainer. My starting point: security is behaviour.

Je kunt systemen nog zo goed dichtzetten: als gebruikers zich niet bewust zijn van hun gedrag, of als de directie de risico’s niet overziet, dan is dát het meest kwetsbare punt van een organisatie. Daarom combineer ik technische diepgang met uitleg. Ik ben opgeleid in de elektrotechniek, commerciële techniek en als docent, en werk als infra-architect, beheerder, adviseur en trainer.

You can lock systems down as tightly as you like: if users aren’t aware of their behaviour, or the board doesn’t see the risks, that becomes the organisation’s most vulnerable point. That’s why I combine technical depth with explanation. I trained in electrical engineering, commercial engineering and as a teacher, and I work as an infrastructure architect, administrator, consultant and trainer.

Ik richt systemen veilig in én zorg dat mensen begrijpen waarom, van beheerder tot directie. Waar het vastloopt breng ik rust en overzicht, en ik leg vast wat er moet gebeuren, zodat de organisatie zelfstandig verder kan.

I secure systems and make sure people understand why, from administrators to the board. Where things get stuck I bring calm and overview, and I document what needs to happen so the organisation can carry on independently.

Dezelfde aanpak gebruik ik als energieadviseur: eerst meten en begrijpen, dan pas maatregelen nemen.

I take the same approach as an energy advisor: measure and understand first, then act.

Ik werk vier dagen per week voor opdrachtgevers. De overige tijd besteed ik aan studie, schrijven en onderzoek, zodat mijn kennis actueel blijft.

I work four days a week for clients. I spend the rest of my time on study, writing and research, so my knowledge stays up to date.
